Vladimir Slavsky: the program of “The Russian Olympians Foundation” on paying out the grants to the candidates to the Russian Olympic team-2010 has been realized effectively and in proper time

“The Russian Olympians Foundation” (whose founders are the 15 leading Russian businessmen, and the head of the Tutirial Council – Russian president Dmitry Medvedev) has realized the program “Vancouver-2010”. According to this program, all the athletes who were the candidates for participation on the Winter Olympic Games-2010 were getting 45 thousand rubles a month, and all the coaches and servicemen – 40 thousand rubles a month. The president of the Russian Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined federation Vladimir Slavsky for the Agency of sport information “All Sport” summarized the results of the program and made some proposals to the Foundation for the future.

“The project of the monthly grants to the athletes and coaches itself deserves appreciation, - Vladimir Slavsky noted. – In fact, for the first time in the whole Russian history our athletes were getting regularly, once a month, like a salary, very solid sums of money and could concentrate only on their direct job – trainings and competitions. This is specially important for our kinds of sports, where, we may confess, there are quite a few achievements and we could hardly count on getting any prize grants (smiling). The fact of the new program is, to say in short, very positive. The idea has been realized effectively and in proper time. I’d like to congratulate “The Russian Olympians Foundation” and to pass my gratitude for the effectiveness and timeliness of the realization of this project”.

“But for the future, I’d like to propose to the Foundation several corrections to the salary program, which are, to my mind, necessary, - Vladimir Slavsky went on. – I’ll be pleased if my corrections are taken into consideration. Firstly, there is need for more individual, differentiated approach to the grants recipients. I suppose it is not quite fair when all the members of the national team are getting the same sum of money. For example, in ski jumping we have athletes who on the World Cup are fighting for the podium. And there are also Nordic combined athletes, who are unfortunately not fighting for anything, bust still get the same salary. I’d suggest if we had the united salary fund for the team which could be distributed among the athletes and coaches directly in the federation.Naturally, everything under direct control of the “Russian Olympians Foundation”. For example, we would for sure add some money to the leader of the ski jumping team Dima Vassiliev – on the expense of someone who do not show such good results. Of course, the distribution of the money would take place openly – on the coaches council or the panel meeting of the federation”.

“There is also one more aspect we should not forget when planning the preparation to the Olympic Games-2014 in Sochi – and not only on the context of the “Russian Olympians Foundation”, - Vladimir Slavsky summarized. – At the moment we have five foreign coaches working in the structure of our federation. According to the present laws, they are getting neither the grants from “The Russian Olympians Foundation”, nor the salaries from the Centre of sports preparation of the Ministry of sport, tourism and youth policy. In fact, the federation is wholly responsible for financing their job. And the federation, let me remind you, is a non-governmental organization. The total sum of the contracts of the foreign coaches is equal to the sum from we get from the state for the whole team. I suppose it is not quite fair, taking into consideration the fact that we need the best coaches to work with our teams. We would be really grateful if after the Olympic Games in Vancouver the Ministry of sport and ”The Russian Olympians Foundation” paid particular attention to this aspect”.

Yesterday, on November, 29, in Kuusamo (Finland) the second stage of the World Cup in cross country finished. It happened to be one of the most successful in the recent years for the Russian team: in four races Russian athletes won medals, six more got in the best “ten”, seven more finished in the best “30”. The head coach of the Russian cross country team Jury Charkovsky commented on the successful participation of the athletes and specially notified the role of “The Russian Olympians Foundation”, which realizes the “salary” program of support of winter kinds of sport before the Olympic Games-2010 in Vancouver.
