BADMINTON. Sergey Shakhray: the Russian Open got the most positive estimation from the international observers

On Desember, 9 in the USC CSKA of A.Y. Gomelsky finished the first in the Russian history tournament of the Golden Series of the World Badminton Grand Prix Russian Open with the prize fund $125 000. The President of the Russian National Badminton Federation, the Head of the department of the RF Schetnaya Palata Sergey Shakhray told about the organization and sports results of the tournament to the Agency of sport information “All Sport”.

“We had lots of worries before the beginning of the Russian Open -- whether we had provided everything, whether everything would go according to the plan, -- Sergey Shakhray said. -- For the moment I can state that the first in the Russian history tournament of such rank was really a success. The tribunes were full on the day of the finals. The Head of the RF Schetnaya Palata, the member of the RF President Council of the development of culture and sports and preparation for the Olympic Games in Sochi Sergey Stepashin and the Vice-President of the Russian Olympic Committee Gennady Aleshin came to watch badminton. We discussed the results of the tournament with the head judge of the competitions Mozshmir Gniliza from the Czech Republic and with the representatives of the International Badminton Federation. We carefully studied all the aspects -- timetable, transport, hotels and so on. I can say there are no censures to us, and the tournament got the most positive estimation”.

Sergey Shakhray also commented on the sports results of the Russian Open. “I can attribute to the pleasant surprises the victory of the Polish mixed couple of Nadezhda Kostuchyk and Robert Mateushak. By the way, they train with the Russian coach Klavdia Mayorova. I wish to thank them that they represent the Russian Badminton School in Polish variant. Unfortunately, we didn’t see a single Russian athlete in the finals of the Russian Open. I can name the most positive moment that the Russian couple of Elena Shimko and Tatyana Bibik went into semi-final. The others successfully reached the quarterfinals, but they were able to go further. Mixed couples and couples lost to their competitors for the right to compete at the Olympic Games 2008 in Beijing, and now we have to compensate the lack of the points at the other tournaments. For me it became quite obvious that we need to form the youth team for the Olympic Games 2012 in London. Certainly, we will help those athletes who play now, but we are going to do our best to bring up the new generation of athletes”, -- Sergey Shakhray concluded.

ATHLETICS. Yury Borzakovsky was found not guilty in the car accident and a person’s death
The famous Russian runner, 800 m Olympic champion Yury Borzakovsky was found not guilty in the car accident that happened at night September, 30 – October, 1 in Zhukovsky, Moscow region. The car accident resulted in a man’s death but the criminal case was not even started. Agency of sport information “All Sport” has learnt it from the personal trainer of Yury Borzakovsky – Vyacheslav Evstratov.
