ATHLETICS. Valery Kulichenko: Now I am just a Soviet pensioner

Valery Kulichenko, who at the beginning of August was suspended, and subsequently dismissed from his post as a head coach of the Russian athletics team and a state coach, in connection with the doping charges put against hammer throwers Tatiana Lysenko and Yekaterina Khoroshikh, doesn’t understand the applied sanctions and won’t be working with other teams. Valery Kulichenko stated this to the Agency of Sport Information "All Sport".

“So many months passed, but I still don’t understand why I had been dismissed, -- stated Valery Kulichenko. -- The girls and their coach claimed that the doping discovered in them, got into their samples with the nutritional supplements that I recommended. Stormy discussions continue in the press... However, the All-Russian Athletics Federation (ARAF) decided not to independently disqualify them and referred the matter to the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF). But the IAAF also haven’t yet rendered a verdict about the Lysenko and Khoroshikh issue, or any case, no one knows about it. Still nothing is known; and maybe they will acquit the athletes – but I’ve already been sitting for four months without work. I’m confident that I could bring considerable benefit to Russian athletics. Honestly speaking, athletes are constantly turning to me – with requests to examine their preparations before the Olympics, to become their personal coach. However, neither the team nor the federation wants to see me. I am officially unwelcome there. Although I am, among other things, a publicly elected Vice President of the ARAF. And at the recent ARAF presidium at the beginning of October, where they permanently dismissed me from all posts, President Balakhnichev said that he would find a lot of work for me as Vice President; that he would call. Two months have passed already, and there have been no calls at all. All my service to the country, all the good that I’ve done for national athletics, erased with a single stroke.”

Valery Kulichenko also categorically denied rumors that he has received offers to head the teams of Belorussia and China. “I’ve already said many times, and I repeat again: I will not work against my country! How could I look in the eyes of the boys and girls, whom I would beat under the flag of another country?! Now I hardly leave home, gradually fade... I am already 65... Now I’m just a Soviet pensioner...”

ATHLETICS. Yury Borzakovsky was found not guilty in the car accident and a person’s death
The famous Russian runner, 800 m Olympic champion Yury Borzakovsky was found not guilty in the car accident that happened at night September, 30 – October, 1 in Zhukovsky, Moscow region. The car accident resulted in a man’s death but the criminal case was not even started. Agency of sport information “All Sport” has learnt it from the personal trainer of Yury Borzakovsky – Vyacheslav Evstratov.
