ATHLETICS. Tatiana Lysenko: If a decision on my issue isn’t made by the end of January, we’ll start to ruin Kulichenko’s system

On January, 10, a meeting took place between by multiple world record holder, and the European champion in the women’s hammer throw, Tatiana Lysenko, and the President of the All-Russian Athletics Federation (ARAF), and the member of the international Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) council, Valentin Balakhnichev. In July, 2007 Lysenko and her partner in Nikolai Beloborodov’s training group, Ekaterina Khoroshikh, were tasted positive and were removed from participation in competition. However, as of yet, no official decision about disqualification or dropping of charges has come, either from the ARAF level, or the IAAF level. Tatiana Lysenko described the results of the meeting with Balakhnichev, and her personal prospects, to the Agency of Sport Information "All Sport".

- Tatiana, how did your meeting with Valentin Balakhnichev go?
- Like always, we discussed how the IAAF investigation of my issue is going. Considered what actions are actually being done, and what needs to be done. Now indeed everything is standing still. There was no resolution at all. And you know, I got the feeling that Balakhnichev is worried. I just don’t know about what or whom.

- Why did you get this feeling?
- I can’t say why precisely. Just at the end of the meeting he said to me: “next time you come, make an appointment.” When I was setting records, winning medals, he said: “Come to me any time, if you have any problems.” But now: make an appointment to come…

- Why do you think the resolution of your matter has gotten so bogged down?
- The IAAF commission is gradually investigating. Already they’ve sent repeated demands to the federation for documents which they need for further investigation. But for some reason no one prepares these documents. As I was told, for two months already, since November, the sample of the supplements which were found in my system has been missing. But I gave it to Rodchenkov (director of the FGKP “Russian anti-doping center”, better known as the Russian anti-doping laboratory. – Ed.). I personally put the supplements into his hands, and he said that it would be verified, would be analyzed. But then these supplements were lost somewhere, and now they tell me: “none of it exists...”

- Didn’t you ask why they didn’t immediately report about the loss of these supplements to you?
- I asked. But in essence I heard nothing for an answer to the question. Well, so it just came out that they didn’t immediately call me...

- How does Balachnichev’s position in your matter seem you?
- I don’t know, I cannot answer for him. I really wish that all the documents would be collected and sent to the IAAF so that a decision would finally be made. We athletes – Katya Khoroshikh and I – have done everything possible. Now the matter remains with the President.

- And you have no thought that it’s useless, that it would be simpler to wave it all goodbye?
- How?! To wave goodbye and spit on everything?! No! This is not for me! I very much want to compete at the Olympic Games in Beijing, although I haven’t forgotten that there is the practice of two-year disqualifications. Here for half a year already I’ve been in a suspended state - I sit and wait. But I want to hear something concrete already. Therefore I told Balakhnichev that there must be a decision by the end of January. He answered: we’ll see.

- And what if there is no decision by the end of January?
- If they lay down their hands and won’t fight for us, we will have to act further. We’ll begin to ruin Kulichenko’s system, which continues to function. To whom it is necessary, they will understand, what I’m talking about. We have a chance with the IAAF, and I’m sure it must be taken. But in order to use it, we need to work.

ATHLETICS. Yury Borzakovsky was found not guilty in the car accident and a person’s death
The famous Russian runner, 800 m Olympic champion Yury Borzakovsky was found not guilty in the car accident that happened at night September, 30 – October, 1 in Zhukovsky, Moscow region. The car accident resulted in a man’s death but the criminal case was not even started. Agency of sport information “All Sport” has learnt it from the personal trainer of Yury Borzakovsky – Vyacheslav Evstratov.

By the end of 2007 one of the Russian tennis players will for sure head the rating of Women tennis association (WTA). Such an opinion the president of yhe Russian tennis federation Shamil Tarpischev expressed to the Agency of sport information “All Sport”.
