OLYMPICS. The “Russian Olympians Foundation” will pay out 340 million rubles to the winners and medalists of the Olympic Games in Beijing

The “Russian Olympians Foundation”, founded by the ten leading Russian businessmen, has confirmed the program of prize money for the winners and medalists of the Olympic Games in Beijing -- “The Olympic achievements-2008”. Its total sum will reach about 340 million rubles. The executive manager of the Foundation Alexander Katushev told about it to the Agency of sport information “All Sport”.

“Basing on the results of the Winter Olympic Games 2006 in Turin the “Russian Olympians Foundation” paid out to the Russian champions and medalists more than 110 million rubles, -- Alexander Katushev reminded. -- The award program for the nearest Games in Beijing -- “The Olympic achievements-2008” -- has also already been confirmed. The total sum of the payments will reach about 340 million rubles. The concrete size of the grants for the concrete results and concrete places will be settled just before the start of the Games. I can only say that the sums the Foundation is going to pay basing on the results of the Olympic Games in Beijing may be even more than the prize money which are paid on the name of the RF Government”.

Alexander Katushev also estimated the chances of the Russian athletes at the Olympic Games in Beijing. “Since last year the CEO of the Foundation has also become the member of the group which is responsible for the preparation of the Russian team to the Olympic Games in Beijing. I can say for sure that, according to the results of our athletes in this season, the level of the team will be at least not worse than four years ago in Athens. Another question is whether it will be much better. I am so delicate in my estimations not by chance. In professional sports a lot depend on details, just on good luck. A lot will become clear after the last stage of the team preparations before flying to Beijing is ove. If we manage to avoid any accidents, I will be more or less optimist”, -- Alexander Katushev said.

The famous Russian runner, 800 m Olympic champion Yury Borzakovsky was found not guilty in the car accident that happened at night September, 30 – October, 1 in Zhukovsky, Moscow region.
