OLYMPICS. The “Russian Olympians Foundation” will pay out 12 million rubles to 150 Olympic medalists within the year 2008

The Founders of the “Russian Olympians Foundation” -- ten leading Russian businessmen -- at the Stockholders meeting decided to increase financing of the support program of the veterans of sport. Within the year 2008 more than 150 silver and bronze Olympic medalists of the retirement age will receive grants on the total sum 12 million rubles. The executive director of the “Russian Olympians Foundation” Alexander Katushev told the details of this program to the Agency of sport information “All Sport”.

“For many years all the Russian Olympic champions have been getting the Presidential grants -- 15 000 rubles every month, -- Alexander Katushev reminded. -- But, unfortunately, silver and bronze Olympic medalists were deprived of any financial support. The “Russian Olympians Foundation” displayed initiative in this problem. The first meeting with the participation of the Fund, arranged in honor of the veterans, was held in 2006. That time the first vice-premier of the RF government, and the chairman of the Foundation’s Council of trustees Dmitry Medvedev presented gratitude and grants of the Fund to the winners and medalists of the Summer and Winter Olympic Games 1956. Next 2007 year the founders confirmed special program of financial support of the Olympic medalists which are of the retirement age (women -- 55 years old, men -- 60), and also to those who have group of physical inability. And at the last meeting of the founders it was decided to increase financing of this program more than in three times. It is necessary to mention that all our founders penetrate in details into all the programs and projects of the Fund -- they discuss, argue, ask very professional questions. But the program of support of the veterans legends of Russian sport was confirmed by the founders almost without any questions and unanimously. For the moment more than 150 people are getting the grants. The total budget of the program is 12 million rubles. This year silver Olympic medalists will get 5000 rubles every month, and bronze medalists -- 3000 rubles. In future the sums of the grants will be indexed”.

We remind you that the founders of the “Russian Olympians Foundation” are leading Russian businessmen: Alexander Abramov, Roman Abramovich, Petr Aven, Vagit Alekperov, Vladimir Bogdanov, Viktor Vekselberg, Oleg Deripaska, Vladimir Evtushenkov, Vladimir Lisinn and Vladimir Potanin.

The famous Russian runner, 800 m Olympic champion Yury Borzakovsky was found not guilty in the car accident that happened at night September, 30 – October, 1 in Zhukovsky, Moscow region. The car accident resulted in a man’s death but the criminal case was not even started.
