Dmitry Medvedev: I thank the “Russian Olympians Foundation” for really a huge contribution to the development of the Russian sports!

On August, 30, the president of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev in the Georgievsky Hall of the Bolshoy Kremlin Palace hold the meeting with the winners and medalists of the summer Olympic Games in Beijing. The following Olympic champions from 2008 made a speech at the meeting: Buivasar Saytiev (freestyle wrestling), Larisa Ilchenko (open water swimming), Andrey Silnov (athletics), and also the head coach of the Russian rhythmic gymnastics team Irina Viner. During the meeting the President thanked “The Russian Olympians Foundation” for the contribution to the development of the Russian sports. The Agency of sport information “All sport” publishes the speech of the RF President Dmitry Medvedev where it concerns “The Russian Olympians Foundation”.

"Good afternoon, dear friends!

I am very happy to see you here and I sincerely welcome you to your native country, and, certainly, congratulate our Russian team with very bright and worthy performance at the XXIX Olympic Games.

You had very strong competitors, and, to speak honestly, very difficult competitions conditions. You all know very well where this difficulty lay. Although, perhaps, every Olympic Games are unique in their own way and the difficulties of one edition never repeat in the next one. But the Olympic Games are the top which only most outstanding athletes storm. And our country can boast such professionals, who brought to Russia 72 medals, including 23 gold medals.

The title of the Olympic champion is the highest possible title in sports. And, certainly, every athlete, who has ever gone on start, wants to reach this best result, that is possible in the only, evident case - when you do your best to win. I would like to specially thank the authors of the real Olympic sensations. Our brilliant tennis players Elena Dementieva, Vera Zvonareva and Dinara Safina won all the three medals. The invincible Elena Isinbayeva not only produced the new World record, but also showd a spectacular and beautiful competition. We all remember the unrestrained Olympic spirit from Larisa Ilchenko, impressible finish under torrential rain from Olga Kaniskina and the new World achievement from Gulnara Galkina-Samitova.

We are very thankful to “The Russian Olympians Foundations”. Thanks to its work 500 athletes, 680 coaches and experts got the grants for the preparation for the Olympic Games. According to the results of the Olympic Games the prize money will be paid out, and we, the colleagues, have already come to agreement about it. I thank “The Russian Olympians Foundation” for the addressed and concrete help to the athletes and coaches, for a really huge contribution to the development of the Russian sports. I hope this work will be continued.

You know, there is one more theme, which has already become a good tradition. On the results of the Olympic Games our “Russian Olympians Foundation”, which prosecuted a lot of different problems, as you know, makes the decision about the gifts. And I would like to say, that, according to the tradition we have, we decided to present all the medalists with a car. A good car!

I sincerely congratulate you and I am sure that in future new brilliant victories are coming. You are great! Thank you very much from all of us”.

ATHLETICS. Yury Borzakovsky was found not guilty in the car accident and a person’s death
The famous Russian runner, 800 m Olympic champion Yury Borzakovsky was found not guilty in the car accident that happened at night September, 30 – October, 1 in Zhukovsky, Moscow region. The car accident resulted in a man’s death but the criminal case was not even started. Agency of sport information “All Sport” has learnt it from the personal trainer of Yury Borzakovsky – Vyacheslav Evstratov.

WRESTLING. Alexandre Karelin will present the certificates for new carpets to the wrestlers of Cabardino-Balkaria
The great Russian wrestler, three times Olympic champion, the Hero of Russia and now the member of the State Duma Alexandre Karelin will be the guest of the team meetings in free style wrestling Russia – USA and Republic Cabardino-Balkaria – USA, that are scheduled in Nalchik on January, 30.
