Alexander Katushev: this year “The Russian Olympians Foundation” is launching the program to support curling

The Executive board of the Tutorial council of “The Russian Olympians Foundation”, that was founded by 15 leading Russian businessmen, has discussed and approved the new program of support (for the first time in its history) of the team kind of sport - curling. Alexander Katushev, the executive director of “The Russian Olympians Foundation” told about it to the Agency of sport information “All sport”.

"At the session of the executive board of “The Russian Olympians Foundation” we made a lot of very important decisions, - Alexander Katushev said. - We summed up the Foundation’s activities for the year 2008 and made general recommendations for the year 2009 for all of our programs. These decisions will be fundamental for our budget for this year, which will be offered to the founders of “The Russian Olympians Foundation” for confirmation in the nearest future. The executive board of the Foundation made up the decision that in the year 2009 we will pay more attention to the programs connected with the Winter Olympic Games 2010. Supposedly, in total programs for Vancouver-2010, aimed on support of the athletes and coaches of the Russian teams of winter sports, will be three. One of the decisions, made at the session, we can call even historical. For the first time for almost four year history of our Foundation we will support the team kind of sport. And this kind of sport is curling. As you remember, before, according to the reasons I announced many times, “The Russian Olympians Foundation” principally didn’t include team sports in its programs. For the moment, after lots of appeals from the Russian curling federation, athletes and coaches we decided to make an exception. Curling is a very perspective kind of sports, which potentially may bring to the Russian team Olympic medals of Vancouver 2010. Our Russian female team is a European champion-2006, and several days ago at the Universiade 2009 in the Chinese Harbin with the very strong staff of the team won the bronze medals. As you understand, especially because of the recent events, every medal for our team will be equal to gold. Taking into consideration these circumstances, the members of the Executive board of the Foundation agreed to make this exception".

ATHLETICS. Yury Borzakovsky was found not guilty in the car accident and a person’s death
The famous Russian runner, 800 m Olympic champion Yury Borzakovsky was found not guilty in the car accident that happened at night September, 30 – October, 1 in Zhukovsky, Moscow region. The car accident resulted in a man’s death but the criminal case was not even started. Agency of sport information “All Sport” has learnt it from the personal trainer of Yury Borzakovsky – Vyacheslav Evstratov.
