Alexander Katushev: at the All-Russian sports forum in Kazan the pilot project of “The Russian Olympians Foundation” on the support of youth sports schools was highly appreciated

Last weekend in Kazan the first All-Russian sports forum “Russia is a sport country” was held. The executive director of “The Russian Olympians Foundation”, the member of the organizing committee of the Forum Alexander Katushev noticed to the Agency of sport information «All Sport” that the forum appeared the necessary and opportune platform for discussion of the basic problems and tendencies in development of the Russian sports.

“Do you know what is to my mind most important in the work of the Forum? - Alexander Katushev asked. - Everything happened in the same place: the idea was created, then we worked at it and at once we discussed it with the leaders of the country at the presidential Council! The round table, which was devoted to the strategy of development of the youth sports, went out very effectively. The pilot project of “The Russian Olympians Foundation” on the support of youth sports schools was highly appreciated there. The paid grants within this program have been spent on the most necessary needs for schools. For example, one of the schools bought on the grant bought a canoe, on which later one of its students Artem Kononyuk won the bronze medal at the World championships. Another school in Penza, bought a new equipment and now on the federal level we expect the decision, according to which it can become a training center in diving for the whole Russian national team. School N10 specialized in archery in Buryatia with the help of our grants bought the necessary equipment for trainings; held training camps in Moscow and Penza, its athletes participated at the competitions. The Buryatian archery athletes would never have had such an opportunity but for the grants. Our Foundation in this situation became the organization, which happened to be in the right time and in the right place. In the situation of the financial crisis in the subjects of the RF, the regional and especially local budgets, from which the youth sports schools are usually financed, have been reduced. The financial resources of the schools, which were already limited, have been reduced to minimum. And in this situation we, with our grants, turned to be very useful. After the Forum in Kazan all the leaders of the schools, which yet didn’t know anything about the activity of the Foundation, turned to us and very carefully studied. The exchange of opinions showed that we are going in the absolutely right direction. I would take a risk to assume, that the program of support of the youth sport schools will be extended and improved. In which way - the final results of the realization of the pilot project this year will give us the answer. I won’t exclude the possibility that the presidium of the Foundation may make a decision about some transformation of the system of support of the youth sport schools. But time has already proved that the support of schools is very effective and necessary”.

ATHLETICS. Yury Borzakovsky was found not guilty in the car accident and a person’s death
The famous Russian runner, 800 m Olympic champion Yury Borzakovsky was found not guilty in the car accident that happened at night September, 30 – October, 1 in Zhukovsky, Moscow region. The car accident resulted in a man’s death but the criminal case was not even started. Agency of sport information “All Sport” has learnt it from the personal trainer of Yury Borzakovsky – Vyacheslav Evstratov.

By the end of 2007 one of the Russian tennis players will for sure head the rating of Women tennis association (WTA). Such an opinion the president of yhe Russian tennis federation Shamil Tarpischev expressed to the Agency of sport information “All Sport”.
