Yury Ovchinnikov has been appointed by the adviser of the executive director of the ROC for the international problems

The champion of the USSR and the bronze medalist of the European figure skating championships 1975, 60-years old Yury Ovchinnikov, who has lived for the latest 15 years in the USA, has been appointed to the post of the adviser of the executive director of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) Marath Bariev for the international problems. The Agency of sport information “All Sport” informs about it.

Yury Ovchinnikov was born on June, 3, 1950 in Leningrad. He was the coach of Igor Bobrin and Aleksey Mishin. He was supposed to be the most artistic figure skater of that time. He won six medals of the USSR championships - one gold medal, three silver and two bronze medals. The pick of his career was in 1975, when he became the USSR champion, won bronze medal at the European figure skating championships and became the sixth at the World championships. He participated at the Olympic Games 1972 and 1976, where he was the 12’th and 8’th. Since 1980 he was the coach of Igor Bobrin, but he didn’t accompany him at the international competitions - he wasn’t able to go abroad because of his friendship with Michael Baryshnikov. In 1983 he became the director of the first skating theatre of Tatyana Tarasova “All the stars”. He has lived in San-Diego (USA) for the recent time. He trained the team of the synchronized figure skating Team del Sol.

Yury Ovchinnikiov was noticed at the Olympic Games 2010 in Vancouver. After the Games he actively tried to return to Russia and take the leading position in Russian sport. He planned to nominate his candidate for the post of the President of the Russian Figure Skating federation, which was free after the resignation of Valentin Piseev. He tried to get support of important persons - in particular, he met with the secretary of the presidential council of development of physical culture and sports, the head of the board of directors of “The Russian Olympians Foundation” Aleksey Kulakovsky and the president of the company Bosco Sport Michael Kusnirovich. But in the result, he even didn’t nominate his candidate for the post of the president of the RFSF.

Jury Ovchinnikov became the adviser of the executive director of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) Marath Bariev for the international problems at the beginning of this week. We remind you that recently the international direction was created in the ROC, which Elena Anikkina headed, who was the head of the board of directors of the Bid Committee Sochi-2014 and the executive director of the Russian Biathlon Union. The management of international communication is still active in the ROC, the head of which is the Olympic champion of figure skating Alexander Gorshkov, who was selected for the post of the RFSF president, instead of Valentin Piseev.

The famous Russian runner, 800 m Olympic champion Yury Borzakovsky was found not guilty in the car accident that happened at night September, 30 – October, 1 in Zhukovsky, Moscow region. The car accident resulted in a man’s death but the criminal case was not even started. Agency of sport information “All Sport” has learnt it from the personal trainer of Yury Borzakovsky – Vyacheslav Evstratov.
