FIGURE SKATING. Valentin Piseev: We have the most important things – potential and time to make it a reality

On January, 29 Russian national figure skating team came back from the European figure skating championship where it won two silver medals in four kinds of competitions. The president of Russian Figure Skating Federation Valentin Piseev told sport news agency “All Sport” that in spite of the modest result in Warsaw in comparison to the previous championships, Russian figure skating has the most important things – great potential and time to make it a reality.

“It is impossible to evaluate unambiguously the performance of Russian team at the European championship, - claimed Valentin Piseev. - Specialities always predominate the whole thing in sport, and it is hard not to recall some important moments while summarizing. For example, in pair skating two strong pairs did not compete because of the injuries of Yuko Kawaguchi and Maria Mukhortova. And any of them might have brought us another medal. And in single skating Andrey Griazev and Sergey Dobrin could not show their potential. If they performed at least like they did during the Russian National Championship – not even better! – we would surely have a medal. And the judging in the dance tournament was, let me say, original enough – and we seriously discussed the emerged nuances with the principals of the International skating union. And I even do not mention the fact that this time the leaders in all four kinds of figure skating are gone. And the three of them are the last Olympic champions. The single fact that disappointed me in Warsaw was our girls’ performance. It is hard to accept, but our positions in this kind of figure skating are very poor even on the European level. And our perspectives for the World championship are scaring… But as for the rest, the hopefulness that appeared after the Russian national championship in the beginning of January, proved out at the European championship. There are more than three years before the Olympic Games-2010. I am sure that we will be able to prepare our sportsmen who will struggle for the highest positions in Vancouver, for the victory.”

ATHLETICS. Yury Borzakovsky was found not guilty in the car accident and a person’s death
The famous Russian runner, 800 m Olympic champion Yury Borzakovsky was found not guilty in the car accident that happened at night September, 30 – October, 1 in Zhukovsky, Moscow region. The car accident resulted in a man’s death but the criminal case was not even started. Agency of sport information “All Sport” has learnt it from the personal trainer of Yury Borzakovsky – Vyacheslav Evstratov.
