SPORT POLITICS. The behavior of international principals in case of Samulenkova’s positive drug sample was rather strange

The news of the decision of the International Rowing Federation (FISA) to suspend for two years Olga Samulenkova because of her positive drug sample and to deprive all rowing team of Samulenkova, Oksana Dorodnova, Irina Fedotova and Larisa Merk of the gold medal of the World Championship-2006 was a surprise for the Russian Rowing Federation. This information the sport news agency “All Sport” has got from the executive secretary of the Russian rowing federation Lyudmila Saraeva.

“This story began last July when in the training camp in Belmeken, Bulgaria the leaders of Russian national team, and among them Olya Samulenkova, were drug-tested, - told us Lyudmila Saraeva. – In addition, Samulenkova’s drug tests were taken for two days running. The first test showed nothing, and the second – “traces of some medicine”. This is the exact formulation that we got from the international federation. Despite of all our efforts, we were not able to find out which restricted medicine was found in the sample of our rower. Furthermore, the testing itself was performed with a great number of violations, and Samulenkova wrote about it in her letter to FISA. No decision was made then, and she continued to perform for the Russian national team - and a month later she participated in the glorious final at the World Championship in Iton. Hurtfully, Samulenkova was not supposed to be in that team, but on the final eve Yulia Kalinovskaya got ill and we put Olya in the boat. Then we continued to attack the international federation with letters to make the situation clear. There was no answer. And now, in half a year, we got such a message… You can see yourself that the FISA principals behaved in a very strange way. And I’m not mentioning the fact that in our kind of sport positive drug tests are very rare. We will try to get a sense of this situation in the near future.”

We remind that the gold medal of our women’s quartet that consisted of Oksana Dorodnova, Ol’ga Samulenkova, Irina Fedotova and Larisa Merk became the first victory of the Russians at World Rowing and Canoeing Championships since 1998.

ATHLETICS. Yury Borzakovsky was found not guilty in the car accident and a person’s death
The famous Russian runner, 800 m Olympic champion Yury Borzakovsky was found not guilty in the car accident that happened at night September, 30 – October, 1 in Zhukovsky, Moscow region. The car accident resulted in a man’s death but the criminal case was not even started. Agency of sport information “All Sport” has learnt it from the personal trainer of Yury Borzakovsky – Vyacheslav Evstratov.
