OLYMPICS. Pierre Cardin is waiting for the explanations of Leonid Tyagachev

The legendary French designer Pierre Cardin, whose Fashion House competed for the right to equip the Russian team for the Olympic Games in Beijing 2008 and Vancouver 2010, but lost the tender to the Bosco Sport company by the decision of the ROC executive board, hopes to hear the personal explanations of the ROC President Leonid Tyagachev. The financial director of the Miroff company, the official representative of Pierre Cardin in Russia, Galina Kuznetsova told it to the Agency of sport information “All Sport”.

“Certainly we all – Pierre Cardin, the representative of the House in Russia and UIC countries Jeff Knipper-Chekhov, and me – are shocked by the ROC decision, -- Galina Kuznetsova admitted. – Pierre Cardin competed for the right to equip the Russian team only because of the personal request of Leonid Tyagachev. Since the first consultations he increased the original sum more than twice – from 7,5 to 19,05 million$. He waited for the decision, although there was a risk for the technological process. And than we heard that the ROC gave the right to equip the team to the Bosco Sport company, which offered almost 6 million$ less – 13,325,000$. We haven’t received any formal explanation for this decision yet. And the commentaries in press, which somehow gave the head of the ROC press-service Genady Shvetz, not only have nothing in common with the reality, but do harm to the reputation of the House. It is insulting for Pierre Cardin to hear the doubts that he has not got enough experience in creating ceremonial and sport clothes, and in the quality of the future Olympic clothes. There isn’t any designer in the World but Pierre Cardin, who controls the quality so properly. We would never make our clothes in Kirgizia! And the information of the sums and the problems that have the Miroff company, which bought the license of the Pierre Cardien House to make the equipment for the Russian team, has nothing in common with the reality. I have named the real sum of the contract. And the Miroff Sport is the member of the Russian and International Association of Sport Industry, there is no claim for this company from the IOC and never could be, Pierre Cardin discussed this question in Lausanne. So, it’s impossible to understand what was the reasons of the ROC for giving the preference not to Pierre Cardin, but to the Bosco Sport company. And I can’t announce the words that came to my mind. Anyway, we hope, according to the rules of business relationships in the civilized World, to get the documents of the ROC executive board’s decision – better with the motivation part and with the offer of the Bosco Sport, to understand the reasons why we were worse. After studying the documents we will make up the decision, if we should do some actions, or not. And if we should, what they could be”.

To our request to give some comments about the Pierre Cardin House’s intention to appeal to Arbitration or another court with the claim on the cheating competition, Galina Kuznetsova said: “The right to take such decisions, if such has raised, has only the direction of the Pierre Cardin House with its head Pierre Cardin. I have no right to comment on it. The only fact I know, Pierre Cardin still hopes to get the personal explanation of the ROC President Leonid Tyagachev. In spite of the fact several days have already passed since the ROC executive board had taken that decision”, -- Galina Kuznetsova said.
