OLYMPICS. The “Russian Olympians Foundation” confirmed new programs aimed to support Summer and Winter sports athletes, and also Olympic veterans

The Board of Guardians of “Russian Olympians Foundation” was held in the House of Government, which the chairman of the Fund, the vice president of the Government of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev carried out. The executive director of the Fund Alexander Katushev told about the decisions of the Board of Guardians to the special correspondent of the Agency of sport information “All Sport”.

“Firstly the Board of Guardians summed up the work of the Fund for the year 2006, -- Alexander Katushev said. – Then we discussed the plans of the work for the year 2007. And we confirmed the new programs – the support of athletes and also coaches and experts support during the preparation for the Summer Olympic Games 2008 in Beijing and the Winter Olympic Games 2010 in Vancouver. We have been working for more than a year and a half, and have gained enough experience. We realized that the programs should be more specific, and we have confirmed new regulations. The grants will be paid according to the new criterions, which more correspond to the shown results and current realities of the sport life. Earlier for athletes there were six criteria, now nine. For coaches and experts there were nine criteria, now seventeen. We worked at the new criteria with Rossport, the Russian Olympic Committee and with some leading federations – and now we are ready to activate them. Especially I want to mention the very important social decision of the Board of Guardians: the program of the support of the sport veterans, the silver and bronze medalists of the Summer and Winter Olympic Games. The Olympic Champions get the President Grants from the State every month, and the Olympic medalists have stayed without proper attention and encouragement. Now our legendary athletes – there are about 200 persons – will get the Grants of “The Russian Olympians Foundation” every month".

“The Russian Olympians Foundation” was registered in 2005, the founders are ten leading businessmen of the country – Alexander Abramov, Roman Abramovich, Peter Aven, Vagit Alekperov, Vladimir Bogdanov, Viktor Vekselberg, Oleg Derepaska, Vladimir Evtushenkov, Vladimir Lisin and Vladimir Potanin. The members of the Board of Guardians are: the first vice president of the Government of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev; the chief of the operating affairs of the President of the RF, the first vice president of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC), the president of the Winter sports Association Vladimir Kozshin; the President of the ROC Leonid Tyagachev; the Chairman of Rossport, the two-time Olympic champion Vyacheslav Fetisov; the Chairman of the committee of physical training, sport and youth in the State Duma of the RF, the president of the Russian Hockey Federation, the three-time Olympic champion Vladislav Tretiak; the nine-time Olympic champion Larisa Latynina; and the chief of the “Sport Russia”, the three-time Olympic champion Irina Rodnina. During the 2005-2006 years 2606 Russian athletes in force, coaches and experts, represented the Winter and Summer Olympic Sports, and also the veterans – the medalists of the Olympic Games 1956 -- got the Grants of the Fund. The total budget of the eight charity programs for these two years is 1,5 billion rubles.

ATHLETICS. Yury Borzakovsky was found not guilty in the car accident and a person’s death
The famous Russian runner, 800 m Olympic champion Yury Borzakovsky was found not guilty in the car accident that happened at night September, 30 – October, 1 in Zhukovsky, Moscow region. The car accident resulted in a man’s death but the criminal case was not even started. Agency of sport information “All Sport” has learnt it from the personal trainer of Yury Borzakovsky – Vyacheslav Evstratov.
