OLYMPICS. Vladimir Putin will accept the first reconstructed runway in the Sochi airport

On June, 1, at the presence of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and fifty governors from all the regions of Russia there will be held the solemn ceremony of putting in operation the first reconstructed runway in the city’s airport in Sochi, which increase the chances of the Russian city in competition for the right to host the Winter Olympic Games 2014. The Vice-Mayor of Sochi Alexander Karandin told about it to the Agenccy of sport information “All Sport”.

“The finishing of the reconstruction of the first runway in the city’s airport is such a great event for us that it is difficult to emphasize the paramount aspect, -- Alexander Karandin said. -- To consider the fact that the workers have reported about finishing of the work at the moment, when there is a little more than a month to the important IOC Session in Guatemala. I think it increases very much the chances of our city to host the Winter Olympic Games -- at least because we have proved to the whole world: Sochi is able to decide the most responsible and difficult tasks in short period of time and with high quality. It was the demonstration work in all senses. The first runway of the Sochi airport, which hasn’t been repaired for almost forty years since the moment it was built, has been reconstructed, and, which is the most important, by force of the Russian companies. They have demonstrated to the foreign competitors their best. And the Russian build companies didn’t let down, having made the titanic work in half a year”.

Alexander Karandin has also given more details about the parameters of the reconstructed runway. “The length of the runway is 2572 meters. During the reconstruction it was widen for 10 meters -- now it is 60 meters wide. The second turn of the modernization of the airport will be finished next spring. By this time the runway 2890 meters long will be extended for 510 meters, which will increase the part of the international transport of the passengers in Sochi”, -- Alexander Karandin said.

The famous Russian runner, 800 m Olympic champion Yury Borzakovsky was found not guilty in the car accident that happened at night September, 30 – October, 1 in Zhukovsky, Moscow region. The car accident resulted in a man’s death but the criminal case was not even started. Agency of sport information “All Sport” has learnt it from the personal trainer of Yury Borzakovsky – Vyacheslav Evstratov.
