OLYMPICS. Ed Hula: the report of the IOC Evaluation Commission is the bad news for Salzburg

On June, 4 the Evaluation Commission of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) published the report about the three Candidate Cities for the Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games 2014 -- Russian Sochi, Austrian Salzburg and Korean Pyeongchang. The founder and the editor-in-chief of the American Analytical Agency “Around the Rings” Ed Hula shared his opinion about the report with the Agency of sport information “All Sport”.

“A small advantage of Pyeongchang in the report of the IOC Evaluation Commission is obvious, -- Ed Hula said. – Probably, it’s not easy to see it at once, but after reading it carefully once again it became clear that the IOC Evaluation Commission had fewer questions to Pyeongchang. I was a little bit surprised when I saw a great number of not even problems, but questions addressed by the Commission to Salzburg. Taking into consideration that the Austrian have a high professional team and a great experience of holding international competitions, the report is the bad news for them. The very important is the low level of public support of the bid expressed, which on principle differ Salzburg from Sochi and Pyeongchang. If almost one third of the population of the City strongly oppose the Olympic Games, the members of the IOC have something to think about. Certainly, they wouldn’t give the right to hold the Olympic Games to the City, the citizens of which don’t want to hold it. The Olympic Games should be the holiday, it can’t be forced upon”.

Ed Hula analyzed the position of Sochi in detail by the request of the Agency of sport information “All Sport”. “My own impressions from the visit to the Russian city almost coincide with the opinion of the Evaluation Commission. Sochi has very compact, well planned and modern plan of holding the Games. But for the 7 years left they have to do a lot of work. It concerns as well the city, because Sochi should become really the city of the 21 century – with a lot of beaches, restaurants, hotels. I have spoken to the General Manager of the Bid Committee Sochi 2014 Dmitry Charnyshenko, and I told him: you have to do a lot. Sochi has very beautiful nature, great slopes, and the problem is that you must convince the members of the IOC in the reality of the realization of these plans”, -- Ed Hula said.

ATHLETICS. Yury Borzakovsky was found not guilty in the car accident and a person’s death
The famous Russian runner, 800 m Olympic champion Yury Borzakovsky was found not guilty in the car accident that happened at night September, 30 – October, 1 in Zhukovsky, Moscow region. The car accident resulted in a man’s death but the criminal case was not even started. Agency of sport information “All Sport” has learnt it from the personal trainer of Yury Borzakovsky – Vyacheslav Evstratov.
