ATHLETICS. The Russian Walking Team for the World championships has been composed

Basing on the results of the Russian Race Walking Championship, which was held in Cheboksary, the staff of the Russian Walking Team for the World Athletics Championships in Osaka on August, 25 – September, 2, has been composed. The head coach of the Russian Walking Team Alexey Melnikov told about it to the Agency of sport information “All Sport”.

“Basing on the results of the European Cup, which was held on May, 20, five athletes ensured the places in the team for the World Championship – Igor Erohin, Vladimir Kanaykin, Alexey Voevodin, Olga Kaniskina and Tatiana Sibileva, -- Alexey Melnikov reminded. – Besides, Olympiada Ivanova and Sergey Kirdyapkin as the World Champions 2005 have wild cards above the quota of the country, which includes 3 athletes for each distance. So during the Russian Championship we determined the owners of the two remained permits for the male distance 20 km, and one for the female distance 20 km and the male 50 km. The World Champion of the far-away year 1995 Irina Stankina has unexpectedly won among women and was recommended by the coaches’ council to be included in the team under the fourth number. The medalist of the Olympic Games 2004 Denis Nizhegorodov, who won 50 km very calm and with full confidence has also been included into the team under the fourth number. However we didn’t doubt it. The most complicated situation is for the moment with the staff for the male 20 km. Alexey Erohin and the World Champion 1999 and the Olympic Medalist 1996 Ilya Markov are for sure included into the team. Basically Vladimir Kanaykin should become the third one, sp as he won the Russian Championship -- and even with the world best. But who knows whether he has enough power to compete in the Word Championship in two distances! We will think it over and will consult with his personal coach Viktor Chegin. If Kanaikin decides to concentrate on only the 50 km, Sergey Bakulin and Valery Borchin, who was disqualified in Cheboksary for the infringement of walking regulations, may take his place”.

The famous Russian runner, 800 m Olympic champion Yury Borzakovsky was found not guilty in the car accident that happened at night September, 30 – October, 1 in Zhukovsky, Moscow region. The car accident resulted in a man’s death but the criminal case was not even started. Agency of sport information “All Sport” has learnt it from the personal trainer of Yury Borzakovsky – Vyacheslav Evstratov.
