OLYMPICS. Vladimir Putin will take part in the presentation of Sochi 2014 in Guatemala, but he won’t stay for the announcement of the elections

The president of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, whose participation in the 119’th Session of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) the press-service of the Kremlin has officially confirmed, will become the main person during the presentation of Sochi, but he won’t stay for the announcement of the results of the elections of the IOC members of the Host City of the Winter Olympic Games 2014. The president of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) Leonid Tyagachev told about it to the Agency of sport information “All Sport”.

“Vladimir Putin is a key person in the Sochi’s Bid for the Olympic Games 2014, -- Leonid Tyagachev said. -- He hasn’t just supported the idea of the Russian Olympic Committee, but he has done his best so that this brilliant project can become reality. Taking into account the federal program for developing Sochi, the participation of the biggest Russian companies in the building of the Olympic sites, the advancement of the Bid during the meetings with the IOC members and the leaders of the states -- it is impossible to overrate the contribution of Vladimir Putin. And certainly he couldn’t leave his project at the last, the most important stage -- the IOC Session in Guatemala. I can’t tell you all the details, but I can say that the President will be the main parson during the Presentation of the Sochi’s Bid. But he won’t stay for the announcement of the results of the elections. The leaders of the states who come to support their candidate cities aren’t present during the final accord. The clearest example is the visit to the 117’th IOC Session in 2005 of the Prime Minister of Great Britain Tony Blear, thanks to whom, according to everybody’s opinion, London won in the Olympic Race 2012. Together with his wife Sherry he met in Singapore with most of the IOC members, made a speech during the presentation, and he also didn’t stay for the announcement of the results. There is no point in breaking the traditions”.

We remind you that Vladimir Putin will arrive to Guatemala from the USA, where on July 1-2 in the residence of the Bushes near the town Kennebunkport in the state Mann he will carry on negotiations with the President of the USA George Bush. The program of his visit to Guatemala, beside the participation in the 119’th IOC Session, also includes the meeting with the President of the State Oscar Berge. The presentation of the Sochi’s Bid will be held on July, 4 at 9.15 -- 10.15 a.m. local time (18.15 -- 19.15 Moscow time). The announcement of the results of the elections will be at 17.00 p.m. (02.00 on July, 5).
