SWIMMING. Alexandr Klokov: earlier I could hardly force myself to be positive, and now optimism is striving out

At the All Russian Swimming Championship in 15 from 26 individual kinds of program the athletes made the Olympic quotas “A” giving the right to make an entrance for two participants at a distance at the Olympic Games 2008 in Beijing. According to this fact, the head coach of the team Alexandr Kolokov commented the results of the Championship to the special correspondent of the Agency of sport information “All Sport” in St. Petersburg.

“I will be honest: I am in a very good mood after the All Russian Championship, -- Alexandr Klokov admitted. -- If earlier I did my best to find something positive, suffered, could hardly force myself to be positive, now this optimism is just striving out. I have even thought that some results I am not satisfied with don’t spoil the whole situation. The results are really rather good: three country records, the “A” quotas in more than half of the disciplines of the Olympic program. I realize very well that everybody wants even more, they want Olympic medals. But for the moment the most important is not to let that spirit of stress and haste return, as it was in the team two-three years ago. The present atmosphere in the team we can name by one word -- calm. There is the normal work with constant increasing of the competition at each distance. Certainly, we have failures, but they were too unimportant to pay attention to them. They are just usual working moments, which should be improved. And the best thing is that the athletes and the coaches now believe: they can show these results. Exactly they can do it and not the aliens from the USA and Australia. The progress appeared, and it is good”.

Alexandr Klokov has also estimated the condition of each discipline among male and female. “The statistics is so: the male made 11 quotas “A” from 13 kinds of program (except the complex swimming), and the female made only 4 from 13. I am completely satisfied with the male free style, the result of all the winners and some medalists are among 25 best in the rating of the International Swimming Federation. And the sprinter Eugeny Lagunov has got out of 49 seconds at 100 meters -- he is only the third athlete in our history, after Popov and Kapralov. In the male backstroke the second ones reached Vyatchanin and began making him nervous. The results in the male breaststroke are not bad, in both disciplines the Olympic quotas “A” are done with very serious competition. There is the World medalist Nikolay Skvorzov in butterfly, the others need progress. We have problems only in complex -- after Igor Berezutsky retired, but here also the space is filling, young Alexandr Tikhonov has showed it. Yes, the female swimming is still weaker than the male one, especially in free style sprint, but even here we have progress. At 100 and 200 meters the girls managed to overpass 56 seconds and two minutes for the first time since 90’s. They were great at 200 meters, and for the moment I am able to organize the relay 4x200 m and the girls would have surpassed the Russian record at 4-5 seconds. But I didn’t do it, because I didn’t want they think too much about themselves so early. In the other four distances we have leaders: in breaststroke -- Lena Bogomazova, in backstroke -- Anastasia Zueva, in butterfly -- Natalya Sutyagina and Irina Bespalova, in complex -- Yana Martynova. All these people with a special work training have all the chances to take good places in Beijing”, -- Alexandr Klokov said.

ATHLETICS. Yury Borzakovsky was found not guilty in the car accident and a person’s death
The famous Russian runner, 800 m Olympic champion Yury Borzakovsky was found not guilty in the car accident that happened at night September, 30 – October, 1 in Zhukovsky, Moscow region. The car accident resulted in a man’s death but the criminal case was not even started. Agency of sport information “All Sport” has learnt it from the personal trainer of Yury Borzakovsky – Vyacheslav Evstratov.

WRESTLING. Alexandre Karelin will present the certificates for new carpets to the wrestlers of Cabardino-Balkaria
The great Russian wrestler, three times Olympic champion, the Hero of Russia and now the member of the State Duma Alexandre Karelin will be the guest of the team meetings in free style wrestling Russia – USA and Republic Cabardino-Balkaria – USA, that are scheduled in Nalchik on January, 30. By the end of 2007 one of the Russian tennis players will for sure head the rating of Women tennis association (WTA). Such an opinion the president of yhe Russian tennis federation Shamil Tarpischev expressed to the Agency of sport information “All Sport”.
