ATHLETICS. Valentin Balakhnichev: we have three goals before the Russian Team for the World Championships in Osaka -- to compete successfully, not to admit any positive doping sample and to unite the team

At the World Athletics Championships, which will be held in Osaka on August, 25 -- September, 2, before the Russian Team led by the acting head coach Valentin Maslakov stand three main goals: to compete successfully according to the forecasted plan; not to admit any positive doping sample; to unite the team. The president of the All-Russian Athletics Federation (ARAF) Valentin Balakhnichev told about it to the Agency of sport information “All Sport”.

“I liked the mood with which the Russian team left for the training camp to Vladivostok, -- Valentin Balakhnichev noticed. -- Everybody was communicating, laughing, smiling. At the same time there was no chaos, they registered very fast, distinctly without any mess-up that made me happy. Certainly, I hope the team will have good results in Osaka. But for me, as for the President of the Federation, the successful competition is not just the number of the medals we won and the place in the total offset. I have set up three main goals before the team and the acting head coach. The first one is the sport results. Taking into consideration that the World Championship is the competition before the Olympic Games and is held also in the Asian Region, we will consider the results very seriously and deeply. The second one is the absence of the doping scandals and on the whole positive tests. I told Valentin Maslakov that we don’t need medals won with breaking the rules. We must do our best not to let this happen. I think the last events convinced everyone that we are adjusted very seriously and resolutely. And the third one, which will become the base for the future progress and successful participation in the Olympic Games in Beijing, is to unite and to rally the team”.

The acting head coach of the Russian Team Valentin Maslakov, commenting on the goals set up, named the sport results as the most important task. “By and large, the second and the third ones are important, but they are the parts of the first one. We can’t expect the successful competitions relying upon the prohibited methods and medicines. Earlier or later, but the number of the victories will reduce for sure. At the same time the bad micro-climate in the team can’t promote good results. But I have no doubts in this case -- our team is very unanimous and rallied. We all have understand for whom and for what we compete. First of all we compete for our country”, -- Valentin Maslakov said.

ATHLETICS. Yury Borzakovsky was found not guilty in the car accident and a person’s death
The famous Russian runner, 800 m Olympic champion Yury Borzakovsky was found not guilty in the car accident that happened at night September, 30 – October, 1 in Zhukovsky, Moscow region. The car accident resulted in a man’s death but the criminal case was not even started. Agency of sport information “All Sport” has learnt it from the personal trainer of Yury Borzakovsky – Vyacheslav Evstratov.
