TENNIS. Nikolay Davydenko has been accused of yielding the match at the SPb Open. He cried for the first time in his career

The first seeded at the SPb Open Russian tennis player Nikolay Davydenko, the World number four, finished his competitions in the second round, having lost to the Croatian athlete Marine Chilich -- 6:1, 5:7, 1:6. Thus the referee of the match Belgian Jean-Fillip Derk accused the Russian athlete of premeditated yielding the game. Nikolay Davydenko expressed his own vision of the situation to the special correspondent of the Agency of sport information “All Sport” in St. Petersburg.

-- When I made a double fault the referee gave me a warning for the wrong behavior on the court, -- Nikolay Davydenko said. -- He just said that I was yielding the game. Anything like that has never happened to me before. When we were changing the sides with Chilich the referee asked me to come up to him and asked what the problems I had. As if he could solve them! I told him that I was alright! After that I got the warning and was accused of yielding the match. I don’t know if any penalties can be applied on me now. I will discuss it with the head referee.

-- If it’s not a secret, what kind of problems did you have?
-- My legs were like wadded. I didn’t feel them at all, I couldn’t move at the court.

-- Why didn’t you ask for a doctor?
-- What could it change? How could I for three minutes, which I had for the medical time-out, bring myself in order? The referee later told me that I was to inform him about that situation. It was the first time when I met this referee at the tournament and I don’t understand what and why I was to explain to him. That is the problem which we have at the tournaments of the ATP.

-- But you won the first set very confidently.
-- And I wanted to finish the second one with the victory. But I just didn’t manage to win Chilich’s serve, even having 30:0. Just at that moment I began losing power. I got nervous, that everything was going wrong way, not as I had planned. Probably, I lost mentally. It was like I was absent from the court. Like I switched off from the game and didn’t know what to do. It happenes to me very seldom, and I am very sorry that this happened again in St. Petersburg.

-- Probably, the public opinion, all those recent impartial announcements of the athletes about you influenced the referee?
-- I don’t know why they needed to make such revelations in press? Verner Eshauer, playing here, made some exposures. But why did he keep silence about a mafia which was ostensibly in tennis before? A lot of hardly known tennis players are just trying to attract attention this way. Why Federer, when he was asked his opinion, said that he had never heard about it?

-- And when at last will this story be finished, which influences on your game?
-- I think till the end of the year everything will be over, and in the next season they will stop punching my brains. It doesn’t depend on me in this case.

-- Having left the court in St. Petersburg, are you going to fly for Paris at once?
-- No, I will stay in the Northern capital to have medical examination in the official hospital of the SPb Open. I want to find out what is wrong with my right elbow. But according to the last match, I need to pay more attention to my head.

-- The organizers of the tournament in St. Petersburg are planning to involve you in the Pro-Am tournament, in which together with the professional athletes the Governor and the Vice-Governor of St. Petersburg will play. Will you be able to go on to the court?
-- I will be there for sure, even if I have to use crutches!

-- After the game with Chilich you looked awful…
-- I even cried. It was for the first time in my career.

ATHLETICS. Yury Borzakovsky was found not guilty in the car accident and a person’s death
The famous Russian runner, 800 m Olympic champion Yury Borzakovsky was found not guilty in the car accident that happened at night September, 30 – October, 1 in Zhukovsky, Moscow region. The car accident resulted in a man’s death but the criminal case was not even started. Agency of sport information “All Sport” has learnt it from the personal trainer of Yury Borzakovsky – Vyacheslav Evstratov.
