DIVING. The Russian divers are not allowed to the Grand Prix in Canada

The Russian Diving team may not take part in the FINA Diving Grand Prix 2007, which will start on May,3, in Montreal, because of the documents problems in the Canadian embassy. The head coach of the Russian Diving team Alexey Evangulov told about it to the Agency of sport information “All Sport”.

“Unfortunately the trip to Canada is under threat and it’s almost 90% that we won’t go there, -- Alexey Evangulov said. -- The new rules in documents procedure in the Canadian embassy in Moscow do not give us any opportunity to get the Visas. We have got all the documents of all the team members and have passed them to the embassy, but according to the old rules. However, it turned out that there is a new consul in the embassy, and the new rules. Before there were special proceedings for the athletes to get their Visas, that differed from the standard turist Visa. Now the rules are the same for everyone. The documents are to be given two months before the visit, and the list of the necessary documents was increased. For example, we must provide the translation of the work record of each athlete in English with all the records certified in the notarial office. We have written the letter to the Canadian Diving Federation with the request to help us get the Visas. Their help is our last hope. If we don’t get the Visas on Monday, we’ll stay in Moscow. To tell the truth, this situation is nonsense, as it’s almost impossible to fulfill all the claims for any sport delegation. I don’t know why the Canadian officials want to prevent the Russian athletes from visiting their country. And it’s a pity that a good team won’t be able to go to Canada”.
