CYCLING. Two Russian cyclists have been tasted positive

The members of the Russian Cycling team Anton Reshetnikov and Elena Kuchinskaya have been tasted positive and will be for sure suspended by the International Cycling Unity (UCI) for two years. The president of the Russian Cycling Federation Alexander Gusyatnikov told about it to the Agency of sport information “All Sport”.

“Doping scandals and exposures, fortunately, don’t concern our well-known cyclists, but I can’t tell the same about their less known colleagues, -- Alexander Gusyatnikov said. -- At the beginning of September our Federation got a letter from the UCI, in which they said that the members of the Russian Junior Cycling team (under 23 years old) Anton Reshetnikov and Elena Kuchinskaya had been tasted positive. The well-known substance carfedone was found in the organism of the male athlete (the same substance had been found with the Russian biathlon athlete Olga Pyleva), furosemide was found in the organism of the female athlete. The samples were taken in Italy on July, but we got the results only now. During this period of time Kuchinskaya won bronze medal at the Russian Championship, and Reshetnikov was the winner at the famous race on the roads of Switzerland “Grand Prix of Wilhelm Tell” at the end of August. That’s the news. Unfortunately, I can once again repeat about doping ignorance of our athletes, because the substances found in their organisms have nothing in common with cycling. Especially it is a pity in the case with Reshetnikov. He felt down very seriously during the training camp in Adler, hearted his head and went to the local hospital to reduce the pain. The doctor didn’t know he was the athlete, and prescribed him several courses of fenotropil, which was cafedrone. The athlete felt better, but only till the first doping control. For the moment we are going to investigate this case. If we find some extenuating circumstances, we will do our best to reduce his suspension. But to tell the truth there are no chances for it. The standard suspension in such cases is two years”.

Anton Reshetnokov is 22 years old. He took part in the World Championship 2006 and the European Championship 2007 in the category “unders”. He trained in the DUSS №2 in the town Ishma (Tyumen region). The best result of Elena Kuchinskaya, who represents the towns Rostov-na-Donu and Samara, was the bronze medal at the Russian Championship. This year she also took part in the female “Giro d’Italia”, where she was 33th.
